Fugitive businessman Mehul Choksi travelled to Dominica together with his girlfriend and ended up in police custody, said Gaston Browne, the Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda.

Browne, the Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, has made sensational claims over the mysterious disappearance of Mehul Choksi from the Carribean nation. Fugitive businessman Mehul Choksi was apprehended and arrested by the Dominican Police on May 26.

During an interview, Gaston Browne said, "Mehul Choksi made an error and therefore the information we are becoming is that Choksi travelled together with his girlfriend but he was caught in Dominica and now he are often deported back to India."

Choksi, the alleged mastermind of the Rs 13,000 crore Punjab commercial bank (PNB) fraud case, however, has alleged through his lawyers that he was abducted on May 23 of this year. He claims that folks with 'links to India' abducted him together with Antiguan officials.

He was then beaten up, tortured and brought to Dominica during a vessel where he was arrested, claim Mehul Choksi's lawyers.

Mehul Choksi's lawyer Vijay Aggarwal said on Sunday, "All these theories of Mehul Choksi fleeing from Antigua voluntarily are against sense . Firstly, he features a stay in his favour in Antigua and secondly, I even have been informed that his passport is in Antigua only. Nobody will attempt to escape without having his passport in his pocket."

The captain of Antigua and Barbuda has denied all such allegations levelled by Mehul Choksi and his legal representatives.

Meanwhile, Antigua and Barbuda PM Gaston Browne has said that Indian officials have landed in Dominica to secure custody of Mehul Choksi. Documents are being presented to the Dominican authorities to convince them that Choksi may be a fugitive and will be deported on to India.

Gaston Browne has also communicated to the Dominican Government that Choksi should be sent to India and not returned to Antigua.

The matter of the alleged kidnapping, torture and illegal arrest of Mehul Choksi is pending before the Dominican supreme court . The court has restrained Mehul Choksi's repatriation to the other country till subsequent hearing slated for June 2.
