New Delhi: The CBSE Class 12 board examinations has been cancelled. the choice was taken during a high-level meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.


The meeting was attended by several union ministers including Rajnath Singh, Prakash Javadekar, Piyush Goyal, Nirmala Sitharaman, Dharmendra Pradhan and bureaucrats of varied ministries.


PM Modi was briefed on all possible options that have emerged following extensive discussions with all states and other stakeholders.


"In view of uncertain conditions thanks to COVID and feedback obtained from stakeholders, it's been decided that Class 12 Board Exams wouldn't be held this year. CBSE to require steps to compile results of sophistication 12 students as per well-defined objective criteria during a time-bound manner," the govt said.


Earlier today, before announcing his final judgment on conducting the CBSE Class 12 Board Exam 2021, Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhariyal ‘Nishank’ said that the ''safety and way forward for thousands of students'' across the country remain the highest priority of Narendra Modi government. The Education Minister also admitted that conducting the CBSE Board examinations for college kids within the prevailing COVID scenario may be a huge challenge for the govt .


"Students shouldn't be forced to seem for exams in such a stressful situation," said the PM, adding that each one stakeholders got to show sensitivity for college kids .


The PM said that the Covid situation may be a dynamic situation across the country. While the numbers are coming down within the country and a few states are managing things through effective micro-containment, some states have still opted for a lockdown. Students, parents and teachers are naturally worried about the health of the scholars in such a situation.


Referring to the wide consultative process, PM expressed appreciation that a student-friendly decision has been reached after consulting all stakeholders from across the length and breadth of India.


He also thanked the states for providing feedback on this issue.


It was also decided that like last year, just in case some students desire to require the exams, such an option would be provided to them by CBSE, as and when things becomes conducive.


High-level meetings conducted by PM on board exams 2021

The Prime Minister had earlier held a high-level meeting on May 21 which was attended by ministers and officials.


Thereafter, a gathering under the Chairmanship of Union Defence Minister was persisted May 23 which was attended by the education ministers of the states.



Various options for the conduct of CBSE examinations were discussed within the meeting and feedback obtained from the states and UTs.


Today’s meeting was attended by Union Ministers of Home, Defence, Finance, Commerce, Information & Broadcasting, Petroleum and ladies and Child Development Ministries and Principal Secretary to PM, Cabinet Secretary and Secretaries of faculty Education and better Education Departments and other officials.
